Tired but wired? You need a soothing soak before bed to ensure deep sleep. Try bath salts formulated for calming, or make your own relaxing formula: Add 15 drops each of lavender, chamomile, geranium and neroli essential oils to 4 oz of jojoba oil. Shake to blend, and store in a small, decorative glass jar; use 1 to 2 teaspoons in a hot tub. Before bathing, brew a soothing, sleep-inducing cup of tea; try chamomile, hops, catnip or lemon balm. Add a few drops of passionflower extract for even more soothing power. Then relax in your tub after lighting a lavender candle for more melt-me-down power.
Nighty-Night Bath There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep to keep your mood and energy up, as well as your immunity. A hot bath warms the body, and as the body cools in bed, sleep comes more easily. Hot water also helps open pores, stimulates the lymph system and promotes a detoxifying sweat. Settle in with a cup of herbal tea—try chamomile, passionflower, linden flower, valerian and/or hops—to relieve tension and irritability, and promote nighttime relaxation.
Romance Bath Before your next romantic rendezvous, a sensuous, bubbly soak can set the mood. Start with a passion-inspiring body wash, such as jasmine, lavender, rosewood, ylang ylang or patchouli. Add bubbles to luxuriate. Light some candles; have a warm towel ready (by tossing it in the dryer); and put on some mood-inspiring music. Then, slip into the tub for a long, sensuous soak (alone or with company).
