Peter Island Resort offers luxury on land.
There is no better way to
experience the exquisite colors
and unforgettable BVI scenery
than from the water. You can
take a dip at Dead Chest Island,
the storied site where Black-
beard marooned 15 mutinous
men with only a sword and
a cask of rum (spawning the
musical memoir “Yo ho ho and
a bottle of rum”), or sail to
Peter Island for the day. Within
minutes of dropping anchor
off Peter Island, you can be
swimming and snorkeling with
needlefish, schools of mojarra
and “Barry,” the local barracuda.
On shore is the upscale Peter
Island Resort, where a hike up
a short hill takes you to the
luxurious spa. At the doubles-
massage bohio (cottage), bliss
out in private in a hydrotherapy
tub overlooking the sea and
tropical gardens. If all that
relaxing is too much, hike the
island’s five-mile loop of beach,
hills and stunning views.
Drop anchor at Scrub Island
for an unforgettable day of
swimming, diving, hiking and
spa. History books say Scrub
was named by Christopher
Columbus during his second
voyage in 1493, and it was
untouched for years until priva-
teers and pirates discovered
the island and buried their loot.
In 1672, the British took control
of many islands in the West
Indies, including Scrub, and
about 15 years ago, Scrub was
purchased for development.
Today, Scrub Island, composed
of Big Scrub and Little Scrub,
is home to Scrub Island Resort,
Marina and Spa, a luxurious
mix of West Indies natural
habitat and upscale amenities.
